Let’s be clear, lack of clarity can be a major obstacle to building a successful business. It manifests in several ways, including unclear goals, ambiguous communication, and uncertain decision-making.
This is problematic, as it becomes challenging to create a strategy that can effectively move the business forward in a way that will allow you to experience the time and money freedom that you so eagerly want to create for yourself.
There are several ways this can show up as you start to launch and scale your business, which we are going to explore further here.
Communication
Ambiguity in communication can lead to misunderstandings among team members and hinder the execution of tasks in a timely manner. This can be especially troublesome as a solopreneur where you often have to call on the support of freelancers and third party staff who can help bring specialist skills at key moments of your business launch, like when you are building brand orientated marketing content.
When these professionals are only dipping in and out of your business on an infrequent basis, your ever changing direction can make delivering work to agreed time and scope parameters turn into a logistical nightmare.
Misdirected Efforts
Not only that, but uncertain decision-making can also lead to misdirected efforts. This can leave you investing time and/or money into courses, books and training, or even whole industries, that are not fully aligned with your deepest desires.
As your heart is not fully in it, you will not give the business the oxygen that it needs to keep burning and this will only lead to resentment and a sense of failure when you do not get it off the ground.
And I know how this feels, as I have been there myself. My desire to get rich quick meant I followed the lead of others who promised I’d be rolling in cash if I only parted with a few thousand pounds and spent a few months following their 10 point plan.
The problem with this approach is that these schemes do not factor in you as an individual, with unique abilities, history and fears. It is far more sanity inducing to really connect with your inner strengths and integrate your fears, so you can build a business that works with your innate skills and abilities, rather than do anything that works against them.
Suffice to say, when you are early on in your business building journey be sure to check in with yourself as to what you really want to create for your life, as anything else is counter-intuitive and runs the risk of zapping your limited energy and money resources which can quickly change your mood from happy & hopeful to broke & desperate.
And as if building the business itself isn’t stressful enough!
Pricing
Do you know what you are REALLY worth?
Getting clarity around your pricing can also be challenging, with many entrepreneurs who are just starting out feeling unclear about what they should be charging. You may be inclined to look outward to see what the rest of the market is doing rather than sensing inside for what feels right and cultivating a deep sense of confidence around what you offer.
Though, if you are unsure of the quality and impact of your products or services, it can be challenging to determine an appropriate price point. Pricing too low may suggest that you don’t believe in the value you provide, while pricing too high may lead to a lack of interest from potential customers. Therefore, it’s crucial to take the time to evaluate the value you provide and connect with this energetically, to determine a fair price point that reflects both your worth and the value of the offering.
By being confident in the value you provide, you can establish a fair price point that reflects the quality of your offerings and ensures a profitable and sustainable business.
Your Audience
Uncertainty around who you are here to help and how you are here to help them can lead to several challenges for your business. Trying to help everyone can mean you spread resources too thin and ultimately serve no one effectively.
This desire to help everyone often stems from a FOMO on a slice of the market share. But this, “I can help everyone,” badge often has the exact opposite effect.
The resulting confused and chaotic messaging from your brand can make it challenging for potential clients to really understand what your business offers and how it can really help them. If people do not know how you can help them, they are far less likely to buy from you, so the net effect is the reverse of what you are striving for.
Therefore, it’s crucial for you to identify your target audience, develop a clear understanding of how you can help them and communicate this consistently through your marketing.
By focusing on a specific audience and providing targeted value, your business can establish a clear and consistent messaging that resonates with your ideal client. This can help to build a strong brand identity, attract new customers and ultimately lead to faster business growth.
